Extracts from iPhone reviews by CNET editors: 8.0 out of 10
The good: The Apple iPhone has a stunning display, a sleek design, and an innovative multitouch user interface. Its Safari browser makes for a superb Web surfing experience, and it offers easy-to-use apps. As an iPod, it shines.
The bad: The Apple iPhone has variable call quality and lacks some basic features found in many cell phones, including stereo Bluetooth support and 3G compatibility. Integrated memory is stingy for an iPod, and you have to sync the iPhone to manage music content.
The bottom line: Despite some important missing features, a slow data network, and call quality that doesn't always deliver, the Apple iPhone sets a new benchmark for an integrated cell phone and MP3 player.
Camera: The iPhone's 2-megapixel camera offers a spiffy interface with a graphic that resembles a camera shutter... Photo quality was excellent with rich, bright colors and distinct object outlines.
Browser: The Safari browser really sets the iPhone apart from the cell phone crowd.
iPhone's iPod: Sandwiched between all the iPhone's features lives Apple's most amazing iPod yet. For the first time, it has an integrated speaker.
Britain's Omnifone launch music service in Europe
A music service that lets consumers directly download an unlimited number of songs to their cell phones for a weekly fee was launched on June 14 in Sweden.
Britain's Omnifone said it had signed content deals with the four biggest music groups in the industry and had agreements with 30 mobile operators in a bid to steal the thunder of the much-hyped iPhone from Apple.
The service called MusicStation will be suitable for 80 percent of mobile handsets already available in the market. It will then launch across Europe, the Asia-Pacific and Africa in the coming weeks.
